Senior Exam Exemptions:

Exemptions from examinations will be allowed for certain seniors meeting the following exemption requirements:

  1. A senior (a student who is a candidate for June graduation) who makes grades of not less than “B” on each nine-week report period in a given subject during a current semester shall be eligible for exemption in that particular subject that semester.  (No nine-week report grade, as recorded on the report card for a given semester, may be less than “B” in the subject for which exemption is sought.)
  2. Additionally, the following conditions apply:
    1. A student must not have received a suspension (OSS) from school in the current semester;
    2. A student must not be absent in excess of four days during the current semester.  Seniors should be reminded that missing the exam review day could count as their fifth absence.
  3. Teachers of seniors reserve the right to require all seniors to take exams.  Examination requirements shall be clarified at the beginning of the course.
  4.   Seniors eligible for exemption may, if they choose, take any of their examinations.

Exam Attendance and Make-Up Information

Once examinations are scheduled, no exceptions may be made for the convenience of individual students.  Students shall not be permitted to take examinations out of schedule.  To receive credit for a course, a student must take the exam.  The only exception to this is a senior who meets exam exemption requirements.

To receive credit for a course, a student must take the exam.  The only exception to this is a senior who meets exam exemption requirements.  Students who do not make-up their exams will receive a grade of zero and an F in the course for the semester.

All students are expected to maintain a good attendance record during the exam days.  The regular absence policy is in effect.  Students must report to the attendance office to sign-in or sign-out when entering or leaving school other than the approved beginning or end of the school day.  Completion and submission of the Permission for Absences on Exam Days form, as described below, will serve as sign-in and sign-out during exam days.

Any student planning to be absent during the exam period because of exemptions and/or study halls should return the Permission for Absences on Exam Days form to their English teacher or the attendance office by Monday, January 23, 2017.  This form must be signed by a parent or guardian, and a telephone number must provided where a parent or guardian may be reached during the day for confirmation.  Seniors will not be counted absent on the days missed because of exam exemptions.  (Exam Exemptions will be verified by the teachers.). Transportation will be the responsibility of the parent/student who have an exemption or study hall. Buses will run according to the full day exam schedule.

Make-up exams will be given only in the case of illness or other emergencies.  In all cases a parent or guardian should personally speak to the principal or assistant principal prior to the absence or before the exam time to advise the school of the situation.  It is the combined responsibility of both the teacher and the student to schedule a time to make up any missed exam.

Students are required to remain in their exam class for the entire exam period that has been scheduled.  No students should arrive late to an exam block or leave an exam block early.  Students arriving late to an exam or leaving an exam block early create unnecessary distractions.  Students will be dismissed from an exam once the block has ended, even if the student completes the exam early.
