Emerging Leaders is a 1 Credit – Pass/Fail class for students in their senior year only. The University of Richmond School of Professional & Continuing Studies and Hanover County Public Schools have formed a partnership to provide an innovative Emerging Leaders Program for gifted high school students. The program includes two components: a Summer Leadership Institute and the Academic Year Continuation. Students must attend the Summer Leadership Institute (held at UR the last week in July). During this week, students will learn about leadership styles from speakers and guest presenters, and will work on leadership and team building projects. All four Hanover County Emerging Leaders programs meet during this time at UR. During the school year, students will meet once a week during the B4 block to work collaboratively on a year long service oriented projected. Students in the class decide on the project, implement it, and reflect on the process. Students may utilize the non-class B4 blocks for their mentorship hour requirements or as a senior release.
Students submit applications during the winter of their junior year. Click here for the 2017-18 Emerging Leaders Application. The deadline has been extended and it is now due back to Ms. Alice Scheele in Room 212 by 3:30 on Wednesday, February 8, 2017.
