PATRIOT PRIDE EXPRESS Issue 15 – November 27th, 2016

Hope everyone had a restful and relaxing Thanksgiving Break!

Below, please find a preview of the week to come as well as a few reminders & highlights:

IMPORTANT: Add/Drop Class Deadline

  • December 16 is the last day to drop a course without it showing up on a student’s transcript.
  • If a course is dropped after December 16, the course will appear on the student’s transcript and show whether or not the student was passing or failing at the time of the withdrawal (WP: Withdraw Pass, WF: Withdraw Fail).
  • If a student drops a course in which they are failing after December 16, a 0 will be calculated into the student’s Cumulative GPA.

WIFI

  • We are grateful that the issue of inconsistent WIFI access in the school building was brought to our attention several weeks ago.
  • This allow us to look for patterns, troubleshoot, and communicate more specifics with central technology.
  • Together we discovered that in an effort to restrict VPN (Virtual Private Network) use by students, which is not permitted because it allows unrestricted and unfiltered internet  access, the response had a broader reach than expected.
  • Specifically, we think this fix pushed out some user’s who may have not been knowingly using VPNs by connecting to another users hot spot where a VPN was in use.
  • This fix was reversed, all users were allowed back into the school WIFI and the VPN response was modified.
  • Therefore, as of Friday prior to break, all students should have school WIFI access.
  • If a student has difficulty with WIFI access at this point, please visit Mrs. Haverstein in the library so she can support you.
  • We ask that parents ensure that students remove any VPN apps from their phones/personal devices.
  • Installation and use of VPNs is not permitted and will cause a loss of access. Thank you for your collaborative problem solving.

  • The custodial staff does so much for our school and we use this opportunity to thank them and show our appreciation.
  • The SCA is asking for donations from the community to put a bag together for each custodian to be presented at this meal
  • The SCA is requesting eight of the same thing. Any donation is greatly appreciated. We will be collecting donations through Dec. 13th and they may be turned into the front office or the SCA office.

Boys’ Volleyball State Championship Field Trip

BACKGROUND:

  • On Tuesday, November 15th, PHHS Boys’ Volleyball Team competed in the State Semifinals and WON and will now progress to the State Finals and will represent Hanover in a match that could bring home a state title!
  • PHHS has not advanced to a state final level in MANY, MANY years, and we have not brought home a state championship in ANY sport since 1994.
  • The State Finals will be played at the Siegel Center on Thursday, November 17th at 3 PM.

In preparation for this EXCITING OPPORTUNITY, several of us began planning behind the scenes early Saturday morning in hopes of tonight’s win.

On Sunday evening, I submitted a request and proposal to county leadership for an approved field trip for our students to attend to support our team!  I am excited to announce that this field trip has been approved!!!  While we would love to take everyone, this is not possible.  Therefore, these are the approved guidelines for those who are interested and eligible:

  • This will be a school-sponsored field trip departing school at 1:45 PM (leaving class for field trip roll call at 1:30 PM) & returning to PHHS at 5:30 PM.
  • For students to attend, they must:
    • Be a Senior or a Junior

(Sophomores on “standby” if seats on bus are available; we will take Sophomore permission forms on first come, first serve basis for a standby list. )

    • Have not failed any course for 1st Quarter.
    • Obtain the Field Trip Permission Slip during breakfast AND/OR all 4 lunches on Wednesday (Sophomores may pick up permission forms in case seats are left open at end of lunches so that Juniors & Seniors get first option- see more below).
    • Return signed permission form on Thursday (OR on Wednesday for those who attended Tuesday night’s game) and
    • Purchase the $13 package (Field trip cost = $3 for bus ride + $10 ticket= $13).
    • Provide your own transportation home upon our return to school at approximately 5:30 PM.
  • We have requested three school buses, but this is not a guarantee.  If we secure three buses, we will be able to take approximately 120 students.

Notes:

***Seniors who have A4 Senior Release…

… who wish to ride the bus as a field trip participant MUST meet all of the above requirements and follow these guidelines; OR

…who plan to leave school as usual with their release do not have to have a completed form.

***This event is open to the public and tickets at the Siegel Center are $10 (see attached information, which includes parking lot locations on a diagram).
