Scholarships for Seniors

Please remind all seniors to fill out the PHHS School and Community Scholarship Application to be eligible for the scholarships that come through the PH Scholarship Committee. The deadline is December 9 at 4pm. The link to the application is on the Career Center website under the “Scholarships” tab.

There are many more scholarship resources on the “Scholarships” page (updated regularly) and on the “Quick Links” page.

PTSA  Reflections Program

  • Do you like to dance, produce a film, write a poem or story, compose a song, take a picture or create a piece of visual art? This year’s PTA Reflections theme is “What Is Your Story? Tell us your story. PTA Reflections welcomes students of all abilities to explore their inner artist. You don’t need to be in an arts class to participate! Pick up a PTA Reflections Entry Form from the front office at Patrick Henry, visit vapta.org/arts-and-education/reflections for official rules and get creative! Submit your entry by November 1st.

  • HCPS is hosting an Education Expo to help students and their parents learn more about opportunities in high school and plan for the future.  This seminar will be most helpful for eighth and ninth graders.

College Day

  • On Tues. Nov 1, 2016 from 9am to 10:30am in the Cafeteria, PHHS, will host a college day to inform Juniors and Seniors of some of their options for after graduation. There will be over 80 local  colleges in attendance.
    • Seniors will be invited to attend from 9:00 AM to 9:30 AM.
    • Juniors will be invited to attend 9:35 AM to 10:00 AM.
    • For any Juniors/Seniors that can not attend during first block or need more time with reps, we will make an announcement at 10:05 for those students to attend until 10:30

Veterans Day

  • A letter was given to students on Friday Oct. 21st during PHlex block inviting our community veterans and their student to a celebration honoring our veterans on Friday Nov. 11th.

Patrick Henry High School’s Brick Dedication

  • This is an annual ceremony sponsored by HEF since 2012 that serves to honor families of former Patriot students, graduates and staff members whom we have lost.
  • This event will be held on Friday, November 4th at 2PM in the Memorial Garden in the center of the front lawn at PHHS.
  • Kept fairly low key in the past, we feel this event is an important and special opportunity to share as an extended PPHS community and invite any interested and available community members, parents, grandparents, students and staff to join us to honor past Patriots.
  • We have a 1:15PM early release in Hanover on this day, so the parking lot will be bustling. Please plan accordingly for your time and travels so you may be seated by  the 2PM start.
  • We thank Addison Jones and the Hanover Education Foundation for their organization of this event.

End of the First Marking Period

  • Friday November 4th marks the end of the first nine weeks. Students will have an early release on this day.
  • Report cards will be distributed on Friday Nov. 11th during PHlex block for the first marking period.

Substance Abuse Prevention Blog

  • Substance Use Prevention Education Blog: http://boldwithprevention.blogspot.com. This week’s post includes information on an upcoming parent workshop!
  • Mrs. Kiersten Streitel, PHHS Intervention Counselor, will be starting to go into 9th grade PE classes next week to teach Project Thrive lessons.  She will be going into each 9th grade PE class for two lessons this year and will be talking about the consequences of drugs and alcohol, the science of addiction and the brain, decision making, the influence of media, and the law.

Science Opportunity for 9th graders

Building Leaders for Advancing Science and Technology

Check out this FREE opportunity to interact with other students from Virginia who are interested in the excitement of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)!

BLAST will offer dynamic three-day residential summer experiences on the campuses of Old Dominion University, Virginia Tech and University of Virginia in the summer of 2017.  Through innovative hands-on sessions taught by faculty members and staff, students will explore the fun and excitement of STEM while residing in a college dorm.
Current Virginia 8th and 9th grade students with at least a C+ average and a desire to explore STEM opportunities are encouraged to apply.
BLAST is offered FREE of charge to students, however, transportation to and from the universities is the responsibility of each family.  Students who have previously participated in BLAST are not eligible.
  • Session 1:  June 18-21 – Old Dominion University
  • Session 2:  July 16-19 – Virginia Tech
  • Session 3:  July 22-26 – Virginia Tech
  • Session 4:  July 30-August 2 – University of Virginia

Workshop for Parents of Students with Disabilities

What:           Exploring Medicaid Waivers – What you need to know!

Waivers enable people with developmental disabilities to live, learn, work, play and thrive in their communities and they are NOT BASED on parental income! It is never too early to start planning for the future. Come hear Lucy Cantrell from the Arc of Virginia explain the new waivers and how to begin the application process.

  • Parent-Teacher conferences are coming up on Oct. 27th  from 1:45-6:45 PM and Monday Nov. 7th from 8:30-11:30AM
  • Please complete the form and return to Mrs. Osborne by Tuesday, Oct 25th.  You may drop off the form, fax it to 804-365-8027, or email to cosborne@hcps.us.

BETA/NHS

  • To maintain the privacy of all applicants, sealed student notification letters were delivered to all applicants during the last 20 minutes of the last block class on Friday Oct. 21st
  • Each letter had a seal over the enclosure with a message directing the student to open the letter after school and at home so that students could process their news the way that best fits the individual.
  • Students who had afternoon classes at Hanover HS, Hanover Trade or Senior Release were delivered their notification letters during their last block of the day at PHHS.
  • Students who were not present in class for the delivery may stop by School Counseling first thing Monday Morning before school to pick up letters. Beginning in the first block, remaining letters will be delivered to students.

Spirit Bus for Friday Oct. 28th Football Game

  • Patrick Henry Football has a fantastic 7-1 record with an amazing and spirited student section that is there to cheer on our team each week!
  • Because of our growing student section, PHHS will be offering a spirit bus to the football game on Friday when the Patriots travel to Highland Springs.
  • Tickets will be $10 and students will be provided pizza and a drink after school before heading out to the game. The bus will then bring students back to PH after the game.
  • Tickets will be on sale Wednesday – Friday during all 4 lunches.

On Thursday,October 27th the Patrick Henry PTSA is hosting a luncheon for our Teachers/Staff. We are looking for some help with donations to make this event more complete.   We would like all Donations to be brought to the Main Office by 9:00 am on Oct 27th or earlier if needed. Please mark any donated items PTSA Luncheon. Thank you in advance for your support and help.
