CELEBRATIONS!

Congratulations to our spring athletes for a fine season.  They all worked hard to represent PH well.  The softball team will advance to the regional contests on Tuesday.  More details are coming!

 

Congratulations to Scott Brown who was named the Girls Track Coach of the Year for Conference 16!  In case you missed it last week: Senior Tiffany Harris was named MVP for the conference!  Great recognitions!

 

All our applicants to Boys State have now been accepted!  Again, below is our list of outstanding participants—far more students than any other high school in Hanover County.  : )  Congratulations to all these Patriots!

ANNOUNCEMENTS AND REMINDERS

Tomorrow we will continue with our main SOL testing window.  Below is the schedule.  Students who travel to THCTT and HHS for classes will travel as usual unless they are taking SOL tests.

Summer school information has been posted at http://hanover.k12.va.us/instruction/summer_school/.  Also, our Counseling Center has a few brochures. The deadline to register for online courses is May 27.  The location for high school summer school this year is Lee-Davis.  The school division will provide transportation to and from Patrick Henry High School.

 

JUST ADDED–For the first time, Hanover County Public Schools is pleased to offer French 1 and Spanish 1 online for summer school.  These two courses will fulfill the requirements for Carnegie credit bearing classes as currently taught in Hanover’s secondary schools.  This course is for rising 7th grade students and older.   Enroll soon; the deadline is May 27!   Contact your school counselor with questions.

 

Not too late to get funding for 2016-17 college courses: If you have not already filed your 2016-17 FAFSA  (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) for the academic year that beings next fall, you still can do so at www.fafsa.gov. This form is used by colleges to determine if a student is eligible for Pell Grant and/or Work-Study funds, and to award Federal Student Loans. If you need help completing the form, you can make an appointment with Mrs. Spaulding in PH Counseling (365-8020).

 

During the spring awards assembly, we recognize seniors who have earned the Eagle Scout designation or the Gold Award.  Please send names of students who have achieved these honors to counselor Margaret Roane at MRoane@hcps.us, or call our Counseling Center at 365-8020.  

 

Sports physicals are going to be held on June 2, in the old gym, starting at 3:30 p.m.  The cost is $20 per student athlete.  These physicals are for school year 2016-17.

 

From Mrs. Nuckols: Open gym for girls basketball will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays, 5:30-7:00 p.m.

 

PHun Run, June 4, 9 a.m:  Join the fun at Patrick Henry High School’s 2nd annual 5K Color Run/Walk!  The event is sponsored by the PH Emerging leaders.  Participants and spectators are asked to park at the softball and baseball fields.

SENIOR PORTRAIT FINAL MAKEUP SESSION

Date: Monday-Tuesday, October 10-11, 2016

Times: After school (no senior portraits during underclass timeframe); Sign-up sheets to be provided

As the weather warms, students and parents are asked to be mindful of the PH dress code:

 

  1. All students are to remove head coverings, including hats, caps, those considered sportswear, bandannas, and scarves upon entering the building.
  2. Pajamas pants including flannel are not permitted.
  3. Mesh or see-through clothing is not permitted.
  4. Jewelry and messages on outerwear such as T-shirts, sweatshirts, and jackets should not promote alcohol, tobacco, or drugs and may not be profane.  
  5. Shoes should be worn at all times while on school grounds as a safety/health precaution. No slippers are allowed.
  6. Jeans with holes should not expose skin 4 inches above the knee.

 

Ladies:

    1. All sleeveless tops must be greater than 2 inches wide.  Spaghetti straps, tank tops, racer tops, and tops with the back out are not permitted.  

 

  • Skirts, dresses and shorts should be no shorter than 4 inches above the knee.

 

  1. Jeggings, leggings, yoga pants, etc. must be worn with tops that come to at least mid-thigh.
  2. All tops that expose bra straps, cleavage, and the waist area are not permitted.  

 

Gentlemen:

  1. The waist of pants should remain gathered around the upper hip area to avoid sagging below the hips or dragging the floor.
  2. T-shirts and sleeveless shirts/sweatshirts should not expose the waist area or the side underarm areas.  Tank tops are not permitted.

 

Regarding After-School Events:  Parents and students are reminded that no students are allowed to remain at PH after 3:30 p.m. to wait for athletic events to begin.  Additionally, for safety reasons, students with permission to remain after hours must be with a sponsoring adult, such as a coach, the entire time.
