Special Honor:
Senior Meredith Palmer has been chosen as one of three finalists for the University of Richmond Student Entrepreneur of the Year Award.  This prestigious award is one of four to be presented at the NAWBO Richmond Foundation’s 18th annual Women of Excellence Awards Dinner.  Meredith will be featured in Style Magazine with the other finalists the week of March 7.  Meredith, we are so proud of you!


Harry F. Byrd Scholarship Winner:  Senior Olivia Phillips found out this week that she has been awarded the Harry F. Byrd Scholarship through the Commonwealth of Virginia.  Olivia won $10,000!  Olivia!  This news is awesome!  Congratulations!


Voter Registration:  Our SCA, spearheaded by senior Sydney Tinker, and with the help of social studies department chair Ms. Godbey, registered 105 seniors to vote in the March and November elections!  As a result Nancy Rodrigues, Secretary of Administration for Governor McAuliffe, visited PH to meet these fine young people.  We have such impressive students at PH!  They continue to amaze me.


Three senior athletes signed this week: Tiffany Harris, track, signed with Coastal Carolina; Keion Greenhow, track, signed with Temple University; and Ted Schubert, swimmer, signed with the University of Virginia.  Congratulations to all these fine Patriots!


Gymnastics: The gymnastics team won the Conference 16 Championship! The girls will advance to the 5A South Regional Meet.  Great job, girls!  They are such fun to watch.

Wrestling: The Conference 16 meet in Orange County yesterday resulted in Jeremy Roup 145, Brendan White 160, Tanner Kump 170, and Brad Gholson heavy weight finishing as conference champions!  The team finished second and will advance to regional competition.  Congratulations, boys and Hannah!

From Mrs. Dickerson, Chorus Teacher:  Our award-winning show choir will hold a preview performance on Monday, February 22, at 7:00 p.m.  This event is a fundraiser. Tickets will be available at the door for a suggested $5 donation.  Essence (Girls Show Choir) and Sounds (Mixed Show Choir) will have their first public performance of the year this night.  You will love this show!

Session 1 – Pitching and Catching:  9am-11am ($30)

Session 2 – Hitting and Fielding:  Noon – 4pm ($50)

(Cost of participating in both sessions is $65)

Instructors include PH coaches and players, plus renowned pitching instructor Rita Lynn Gilman and Jackie Ruffin Magill will lead the pitching session.

VIRGINIA LOTTERY SUPER TEACHER!  Join the Virginia Lottery, the Virginia PTA, and The Supply Room Companies in celebrating Virginia’s true heroes of education. Nominate an outstanding K-12 public school teacher for the Virginia Lottery Super Teacher Award, and they could win $2000 in cash, plus $2000 in classroom supplies. Go to Super Teacher between January 4, 2016, and February 15, 2016, to nominate that deserving teacher.

R.E.B. Nominations Now Being Accepted:  The R.E.B. Awards for Teaching Excellence were established in 1988 to recognize public school teachers who have distinguished themselves by their inspiring classroom performance. The R.E.B. awards are designed to identify, recognize, and support teaching excellence in the metropolitan Richmond public school systems. Grants ranging from $4,000 to $12,000 each will be given to approximately fifteen teachers to support professional development activities. Recipients will be required to share educational ideas and experiences with fellow teachers.


This program has been developed by The Community Foundation and is funded by the R.E.B. Foundation. The nomination process will continue as it has in the past – On-line at: http://www.tcfrichmond.org/receive/nominate-an-individual-for-an-award/

Nominations can come from a fellow teacher, staff member, students, or parents. School principals are excluded from nominating.

Deadline for nominations is February 22, 2016 at 5 p.m.

Reminder Regarding After-School Events:  Parents and students are reminded that no students are allowed to remain at PH after 3:30 p.m. to wait for athletic events to begin.  Additionally, for safety reasons, students with permission to remain after hours must be with a sponsoring adult, such as a coach, the entire time.
