From Ms. Hoover, Career Counselor:

I have seen all but a few senior classes to introduce them to the new Career Center website, available soon by clicking  “Career Center” on the school website.  I have chatted with seniors about finding scholarships, identifying their after-graduation plans, and much more. I will begin seeing the junior classes this week and will discuss how to prepare for next steps, including employment, apprenticeship, military, and college.  Check out the new website!   Feedback about the website is welcome!

The VCU School of Engineering is excited to partner with Dominion for the
Exploring Engineering program for the 2015-16 school year. The
Exploring program is a three-session exploratory experience for high school
students who have an interest in learning more about the field of
engineering.  It provides a great opportunity for students to practice
critical thinking and team building while building their resume.
Students work on small projects hosted in the VCU School of Engineering
lead by Dominion engineers.  Students will earn an Explorer Certificate,
tour a Dominion Power Station, and will be eligible for an internship
interview with Dominion.

The student registration and program information session will be held on
Thursday, October 8, at 7:30 p.m, at the VCU Engineering West Hall.
Students who wish to attend should RSVP with Matt Oliver at
matthew.s.oliver@dom.com  An informational/promotional flyer is attached for your convenience.

Gabriel Pearce Memorial Scholarship Fundraiser

Gabe graduated from Patrick Henry in 2010 and was active in the school. He was involved in Soundsations, Lacrosse, German Club, and more. Gabe attended Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and graduated magna *** laude in May 2014.  He then started working for the Henrico Sheriff Department. On June 26, 2014, Gabe went home to be with the Lord. In honor of Gabe, the Gabriel Pearce Memorial Scholarship was created to share his love for academics. The scholarship is an annual scholarship that is given to a Patrick Henry senior that will be attending VCU. Last year a $2,500 scholarship was awarded to a Patrick Henry student in Gabe’s memory.

The foundation is holding a Fall Festival on October 3 to raise money for the scholarship. There will be a silent auction, kids’ games, vendors, crafters, live music, raffles, a food & bake sale, and a yard sale.  A flyer is attached. Here is more information about the event:
